Luis De Léon

Luis’ background and education are in graphic design, but he is passionate about working in a variety of creative fields. He has attained diplomas from different sectors including creative entrepreneurship (Vivero de Economía Creativa) and advanced character design (Pictoplasma Academy MX). From the age of 16, he has worked in visual communications and got his start creating comics for La Cuadra magazine’s Th(ink) segment. He went on to work as an illustrator with the publishers Santillana and Ay Robot! Comics and his work has been featured in Primeros Auxilios and Columbus Music magazines. He also works with independent Guatemalan musicians and has created cover art for composer and jazz musician Dina Ramírez, Armonisas, Gary Rodríguez, Pedro Boche y La Quinta Records, among others. In the field of branding, Luis has worked as a creative director, copywriter, designer, illustrator and an independent consultant for cultural events, fashion industry, educational programs, as well as the food and services industry. He has developed his own unique methodology for brand creation that focuses on verbal branding and has made a point of supporting projects that bring together branding and storytelling to create social impact. His passion for entrepreneurship led him to become an independent small-scale publisher and editor co-founding Génesis Frío publishing; dedicated to supporting emerging authors in the genres of poetry and short stories. Now, he cofounded with Bosques Ambulantes, a publisher dedicated to promoting Latin American speculative fiction. He also produces and hosts the podcast Singular, where he analizes local brands and the ways they build positive relationships with the communities they serve.

What inspires him?
Curiosity, activism, literature and handmade processes.

Luis is a stationery lover and in his spare time he designs, prints and binds his own sketchbooks and planners.
